PC Guide: AMD Processor

Welcome to PC Guide, so far we have discuss guide on CPU and also guide on Intel CPU. AMD Processor have been always the second choice in times of CPU market. never-less AMD has been trying very hard to step-up in the CPU market. And these year there were able to get it right with there new and promising new line of CPU RYZEN.

AMD Processor

Advanced Micro Devices(AMD) is an American multinational semiconductor company that develops computer processors and related technologies for business and consumer markets. It the second top manufacturer of Central processing Unit(CPU), AMD is the second-largest supplier and only  rival to Intel in the CPU market . Since acquiring ATI in 2006, AMD is also the second-largest supplier and only competitor to Nvidia in the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) market.

AMD have quiet many types and series of CPU, like Athlon, A series, FX series, and Jaguar mainly use in Playsation 4 and Xbox one. But will discussing mainly on it new Zen based processor RyzenLearn More are other AMD microprocessor click here.

AMD CPU: Ryzen

Ryzen is AMD‘s new line of CPU based on it new Zen architecture. The Zen architecture is built on a 14nm FinFET . Essentially, this means that Ryzen processors are able to do about 40 percent work per clock cycle. This is one of the main keys, to competing with Intel processors. Previously AMD Processor could only achieve these performance at a much higher power consumption, because it needed to use a higher clock speed to do the same amount of work as the equivalent Intel Core CPU. Ryzen also support “Simultaneous Multi-Threading“, which is similar to Intel’s Hyper-Threading technology.

The Zen architecture  is aimed at competing with Intel line of Microprocessor. Which will be in three main model Ryzen 7, Ryzen 5 & Ryzen 3 and available in desktops, laptops and Servers.
In terms of price and performance, The flagship eight-core Ryzen 7 1800X costs only £499 ($499) – half the price of Intel’s eight-core i7-6900K.  The mid-range chips Ryzen 5 1600X which is likely to be the big sellers, is claimed to outperform the Intel Core i5-7600K by almost 70 percent in the multithreaded Cinebench R15 test.
Ryzen 3 is coming soon, will keep an eye on it.

Ryzen 5 1500 4 / 8 3.2 3.4 65 £169 / $169

Note:

  • Every Ryzen chip can be overclocked
  • Overclocking is supported only on motherboards with X370, X300 and B350 chipsets
  • Motherboards will support plenty of the latest features including NVMe and DDR4 RAM
  • You can’t install a Ryzen processor in an older AM3+ motherboard – it needs an AM4 socket
